In July 2000 the Princess II recovered two ocean current monitors at a depth of 17,000 feet in the St Cristobel Trench, 1100 miles northeast of Fiji, for Racal Pelagos.  The monitors were used for the inspection of undersea communication cables.

MV Princess II
M.V. Princess II

The Princess II is ideally suited for oceanographic work because she was originally built as an ocean-going trawler and has heavy machinery on board and large deck areas.  She has a cruising range in excess of 4,000 nautical miles and spacious accommodation.  There is a large capacity of power generation on board enabling Princess II to produce 110 Kilowatts of power.

She then traveled to New Guinea and towed a tug boat to the Solomon Islands, an 800 mile tow in heavy winds.  On arrival in the Solomons, she was engaged by the International Red Cross for two months on humanitarian relief work.
