Scuba Diving at Mary Island |
The Solomon Islands are world-renown for their abundant marine life and superb visibility. You can expect to see any of the following:
- Coral walls
- Pristine reefs
- Wrecks
- Deep drop offs
- Deep passages
- Pelagic fish
- Manta rays
- Sharks
- Whales
- Nudibranchs
The Russell Islands have a great variety of diving locations including sheer coral walls, a coastal trader, caves, old PT-boat bases and underwater mounds of WWII material. Remote, jungle-clad, uninhabited Mborokua ( Mary) Island is surrounded by deep walls with prolific marine life including barracuda, manta rays and sharks. Marovo Lagoon is known as the largest lagoon in the world and has a tremendous variety of diving. Heading back to the Nggela Islands , experienced wreck divers may visit deep wrecks of WWII ships and aircraft as well as the famous Twin Tunnels.
Princess II has a large dive deck with seats, tank holders, individual storage bins and a camera bench. Drift dives usually start from the dive platform at the stern. The Princess II then drifts with the divers, swings around and picks them up after they surface. At other times, we anchor at a site and the tenders can be used to take divers further away from the boat if required, follow them and pick them up as soon as they surface.
Princess II provides comfort and facilities for underwater photographers. A big rinse tank, camera table, and several shelves are located in a protected area on the dive deck.
After a dive, you can enjoy a hot shower on the dive deck, with fresh towels always available. While you are resting, Princess II moves to the next dive site and the scuba tanks are filled in place from the compressor bank.
