Location

The capital of the Solomon Islands is Honiara located 9.25 degrees South and 160 degrees East. The Solomons are approximately 900 miles east of Australia 's Great Barrier Reef and approximately 1200 miles northwest of Fiji.

Language

The official language in the Solomon Islands is English although pidgin is spoken by the indigenous people.

Visas

For most nationalities, a visa is not necessary, however you must possess a current passport and a return or onward ticket.

The flight time from Brisbane to Honiara is approximately 2hrs 50 mins. The flight time from Nadi in Fiji to Honiara is approximately 3hrs 30 mins with the occasional stopover in Port Vila in Vanuatu . On arrival at Solomons International Airport in Honiara , you will be met by your hosts and taken on board Princess II .

Departure Tax

The departure tax from Honiara is less than $US10.

Currency

Solomon Island dollars is the basic unit of currency in the islands.

Climate

Tropical, with average daytime temperatures around 85 deg F (29 deg C) and high humidity. There are no defined seasons but November to May are the wetter months.

Water Temperature

The water temperature averages 82 deg F ( 28 deg C).

Dress

Light and casual but not too brief when ashore.

Electricity

240V 50 cycle AC.  110 V is provided for charging on board ship.

Medical

The ship carries an extensive first aid kit including oxygen equipment. Ensure that you bring your own personal items and medications with you.

As most equatorial regions you are advised to seek medical opinion regarding malarial medication for the period you are in the Solomons.
